DRAINAGE CHANNELS – SERIES 3000 / 3600 / 6000
NOTE: IF, ON REMOVAL OF THE PROTECTIVE STRIPS, ADHESIVE TRACES REMAIN ON THE CHANNEL, REMOVE WITH A SOLVENT SUCH AS ACETONE, NITROMORS’ OR METHYL ETHYL KETONE
ROUTINE CLEANING
Due to the hygienic and easy-to-clean nature of stainless steel, a thorough wash with warm soapy water, followed by rinsing with clean water, will prove successful for routine cleaning of your channel.
A bactericidal detergent such as ‘Odourless Shield’ should be used if a disinfectant is required.
IMPORTANT
Never use a wire brush to clean down the channel system.
Do not allow Hydrochloric acid (or brick acid) to come into contact with the channel system.
Do not allow ferrous metals to come into contact with the channel system as these will contaminate the steel causing oxidation (rust)
THE REMOVAL OF FINGERPRINTS, GREASE MARKS AND OIL
If the previous method proves inadequate, add an organic solvent such as Swansolv, in a quantity equal to a quarter by volume of the soap and water solution.
The mixture should be applied with a soft cloth, rubbed gently and left in contact with the stainless steel. After a few minutes it should be rubbed again and then rinsed with clean water.
THE REMOVAL OF HARD WATER SPOTS, SCALE AND WATERMARKS
These may be removed by the application of a very mild abrasive cleaner (such as Cif), in the direction of the polish on the steel using a clean, dust and grit-free soft cloth to avoid scratching.
IMPORTANT: Only very mild abrasive cleaners should be used with a soft cloth as strong abrasives will cause severe damage to polished surfaces.
GRATINGS: Can be lifted and cleaned in a dishwasher or autoclave if necessary.
WASTE BASKETS: Should be cleaned on a regular basis (at least twice a week) or more often if required.
RODDING PORT: In extreme conditions, the system can be rodded through the rodding port in the gully body, which can be located without fuss and entered from floor level.
RENEWING THE SILICONE SEALS
For those channel systems which incorporate a gasketed joint, a silicone rubber sealant, such as Dow Corning 781, should be placed over the neoprene gaskets during installation to form a seal over the joint and to protect and increase the life of the gasket.
Should it be necessary to renew the seal, all previous silicone sealant material should be completely removed by cutting with a sharp knife. The area should then be made completely free of dirt, oil and grease by treating the area with methylated spirits or another non-oily solvent. The joint area should then be primed as instructed by the sealant manufacturer and allowed to dry before applying the sealant material. Silicone rubber sealant can be applied very easily and achieves an initial cure within an hour and completely cures within 24 hours.
SEEPAGE AT THE CHANNEL SIDES
If epoxy, silicone or polysulphide beads are not used as an interface between the edge of the channel and the surface of the floor, the floor may start to break away from the channel sides, forming a crack which could lead to seepage. We would recommend that should this occur, the seal should be immediately remade.
